Lia Chaia (São Paulo, 1978) lives and works in São Paulo. She graduated from the Armando Álvares Penteado Foundation in Plastic Arts, in 2003.
In her work, the artist studies the daily life and its many dichotomies, such as culture vs. nature, tension vs. lightens, urban vs. rural. Her research also focuses on the body and its reactions to the ruptures and stimulus of the day-to-day. As a result, she uses all sorts of media in her pieces: performance, installation, video, photography.
She has been exhibiting non-stop since 1999 in several group exhibitions, and amongst her last solo exhibitions we can highlight “Máscara Corpo”, Projeto Clareira, Museu de Arte Contemporânea [MAC USP], São Paulo, BR (2022); "Estacionamento”, Senac Lapa Scipião, São Paulo, BR (2018); “É como dançar sobre a arquitectura”, Instituto Tomie Ohtake, São Paulo, BR (2017); “Mostravídeo”, Instituto Itaú Cultural, Belo-Horizonte, BR (2007); “Lia Chaia”, Centre de Creation, Bazouges-la-Pérouse, FR (2005).
