PRIMARY STRUCTURES: A PLACE BEYOND FAILURE

Born in Guimarães, Portugal, Marisa Ferreira lives and works in Norway since 2008. She has a Master’s degree in Visual Arts from the Universidade de Évora and she  completed a postgraduate degree in Art and Design for Public Space at the Faculdade de Belas-Artes da Universidade do Porto.

 

She has been participating regularly in collective exhibitions since 2003 and has already held several solo exhibitions in Norway and abroad, including Transparency, Reflection and Colour (2016) at Centro para os Assuntos da Arte e Arquitectura (Portugal), Space, Rhythm & Movement (2015) at Galleri Gann (Norway) and Messmer Kunsthalle (Germany) and Colour + Form (2012) in Norway. One of her most known works is Rear Window (2015), a site-specific work for the facade of the central station of Oslo.

 

She has been developing public art projects in Norway and abroad, such as Beautiful forms unfold from unity (2014, Ulsmåg skole, Bergen Kommune), Voyage dans l’rhythme (2015/18, Royal University Liverpool Hospital, UK) and Chromatic Sounds (2016/2017, St Raphael College, Galway). On the Summer of 2017, Marisa Ferreira finished Chromatic Throws, an outdoor sculpture made on powder coated stainless steel, commissioned by Svelvik Kommune and her public art project Shall we dance?, a 40 meters long asphalt painting which includes 10 concrete benches in the historical part of the Oslo city center. The artwork is commissioned by the Oslo City Council and curated by Kulturbyrået Mesen. Marisa Ferreira was also appointed the winner for a new commission work for Frøyland school in Time Kommune which will be delivered in spring 2018.

 

Marisa Ferreira is currently a fellow of the Bildende Kunstneres Vederlagsfond and received several scholarships to support her artistic activity from the Norwegian government in 2011, 2012, 2016 and 2017. In 2015 and 2016, Marisa Ferreira received support from the Kulturrådet - Arts Council Norway for the project Space, Rhythm & Movement and from DG Artes for her first solo exhibition in Portugal Transparency, Reflection and Colour (2016) at the Centro para os Assuntos da Arte e Arquitectura in Guimarães.

 

Her work is part of several private and public collections in Norway, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, France, England and Portugal, notably the Stavanger Kunstmuseum, Wintershall Art Collection and Messmer Foundation.
