NIKOLAJ LARSEN

 

Born in Aalborg in 1971, Nikolaj Bendix Skyum Larsen lives and works in London.

He undertook a master’s degree in Fine Art and Media at Slade School of Fine Art in London (2001) and a bachelor’s degree in Fine Art and Sculpture at Chelsea College of Art in London (1999). He attended several artistic residencies: Qwatz, Calabria (Italy, 2014); PiST///, Istanbul (Turkey, 2012); Santa Fe Art Institute (SFAI), Santa Fe (USA, 2009);  Al Mamal Foundation for Contemporary Art, Jerusalem (2006); Sharjah Biennial 7's Artist in Residence Programme (2005); Portrait in Time, Medway Council's Residency Programme (2003); Choreodrome, The Place School of Dance - with Plire Multi Dance (2003); Alchemy Project, BBC, London (2002).

He won the ACAVA First Base Studio Award (2001) and the AHRB Postgraduate Professional and Vocational Award (1999).

Amongst his last exhibitions we can highlight “Believe” - MOCA, Toronto, Canada (2018); “The Absence of Paths” - Tunisian Pavilion, Venice Biennale 2017, Italy (2017); “Tension & Conflict” - MAAT - Museum of Art Architecture Technology, Lisbon, Portugal (2017); “End of Dreams” - Fotografisk Center, Copenhagen, Denmark (2016); “Word. Sound. Power” - Tate Modern, London (2013).

Nikolaj Larsen’s work is represented in public and private collections, such as Sharjah Art Foundation, United Arab Emirates; Museum of London, UK; Kunsten Museum of Modern Art, Aalborg, Denmark.
