Miguel Palma

Miguel Palma (1964) lives and works in Lisbon. He attended several artistic residencies, such as “18th Street Arts Center’s Visiting Artist Residency Program”, Los Angeles, USA (2014), “ASU Art Museum International Artist in Residence Program, Desert Initiative: Desert One”, Combine Studios, Phoenix, Arizona, USA (2012), “Lucas Artists Residency Program”, Montalvo Arts Center, California, USA (2010), “Headlands Artist in Residence (AIR) Program”, Headlands Center for the Arts, California (2009) and “Location One International Residency Program”, Location One, New York (2007). 

Palma's work frequently handles questions on technological development, ecology, the belief in images, the idea of power, the infant-juvenile world, the obsession for the machine. His art unfolds into drawing, sculpture, multimedia installation, video, artist books and performance.

Among his last important solo exhibitions we can highlight “Miguel Palma. A – Z”, MAAT, Lisbon (2018), “Linha de Montagem”, Centro de Arte Moderna - Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, Lisbon (2011) and “Miguel Palma – Anti-Ram”, Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Serralves, Porto, Portugal (2000).

His recent group exhibitions include “Germinal. O núcleo Cabrita Reis na Coleção de Arte Fundação EDP”, MAAT, Lisbon (2018), “Coleção de Serralves: Novas linhas, Imagens, Objetos.”, Fundação de Serralves, Porto, Portugal (2018) and “Portugal em Flagrante / Operação 1”, Centro de Arte Moderna (CAM) – Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, Lisbon (2016).

Miguel Palma’s work is represented in public and private collections in Portugal and abroad, such as Arizona State University Art Museum (ASU Art Museum), USA; Centre de Création Contemporain Olivier Debré (CCC OD), France; Coleção Secretaria de Estado da Cultura (SEC), Portugal; Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, Portugal; Fundação de Serralves – Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Serralves, Portugal; Coleção de Arte Fundação EDP, Portugal; Fundação PLMJ, Portugal; Fundación ARCO, Spain; Musée d’Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean (MUDAM Luxembourg), Luxemburgo; Museum of Contemporary Art, Denmark; Phoenix Art Museum (PAM), USA.
